Never conceived of as an alter ego, but rather as a container in which his eclectic musical tastes and experiences could be combined, Unitus was constructed by Daniel Ross in Toronto, Canada, during the summer of 2000. Informed as much by the visceral quality of early industrial artists like The Swans, Big Black, and Godflesh as by the detailed production work of later electronic artists like Aphex Twin, and Autechre, Unitus was an ambitious project from the onset. An early three track demo received welcome attention from Canada’s own digital hardcore label D-Trash Records, and laid the foundation for the release of “Cross Contamination” in early 2002. A fusion of breakcore, drum & bass, industrial, guitars, and electronics into an unrelenting wall of sound, “Cross Contamination” proved to be an underground success.

Having played alongside such artist as Venetian Snares, Merzbow and Heartworm, the Unitus live act is a simultaneous action of laptop beats, live guitar riffs and various distortion pedals and effects boxes. With the release of the newest album “Caretaker”, on Dross:tik Records, Unitus has positioned himself as one of the top artists in Toronto’s vibrant underground music scene. Read more on Last.fm.
