The band name was printed on some of their single sleeves simply as 'Haigs', but The Haigs is the preferred spelling. The Haigs were founded in 1963 by Frank van Leijen (vocals/harmonica) and Jaap Rog (guitar/vocals) and soon developed into a notoriously dysfunctional band in the blossoming The Hague scene, mainly due to Van Leijen's excessive alcohol consumption, which would later cost him his life, at age 39. The Haigs released five singles (no albums) and are primarily remembered for the fact that a teenage Barry Hay was briefly in the band in 1966-1967, co-writing one of the group's best known tunes, From Now On, before joining Golden Earring (then called The Golden Earrings) in 1967. The next year the remaining Haigs decided to call it a day. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
