Rubika came into being after a chance encounter at the Manchester Victoria station of two music pilgrims from Ukraine and Belarus – Irena and Slava. After coming to Manchester to study music at Salford University Slava, a classically trained pianist from Minsk, got extremely fascinated and inspired by the music culture of the city that gave birth to Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths and Stone Roses. Being in a desperate search for a singer for his trance/house experiments, Slava saw the accidental meeting with a beautiful singer from the neighboring country as a sign of destiny. A creative alliance of two people united by eastern European musical traditions and driven by the admiration of the 80’s Manchester scene resulted in the music where Russian coldness and melodism met the rainy melancholy of England’s Northwest. It took a few years of endless experiments with styles and sounds; ignoring people’s skeptic mockery they set up an unusual for the majority of musicians strict everyday routine of composing until a “perfect song” was written. Combining nostalgic sounds of 80’s synthesizers, live instruments and futuristic lyrics Rubika are still searching for their unique “ cosmopolitan” sound that would be recognized by both Western and Eastern listeners.

They might have set their goals up way too high aiming to gain the affection of international audience but Rubika, two ambitious romantics-perfectionists, are confident about their successful music future attracting more and more fans from all over the world. Their gigging experience started only a few month ago but they have already managed to play at many high profile venues including Roadhouse, Ruby Lounge, Moho Live, Night&Day as well as had their songs played by BBC Manchester and many other local and international radio stations.
