The same way leads the progressive electronic world scene up. Majestic Twelve also represent probably the one conjuction of Kladno with the progressive world of contemporary electronic music. Year 1991. The doublet Tomáš Glasberger and Martin Bártl meets in the first grade of metallurgic technical colledge in Kladno. The both have their heads full of music rolling from the fresh hole in Iron Curtain in so conservative steel and miner Kladno, too.
Here awakes the need to get their music ideas from heads for the first time. The inspiration like U96, KLF, Technotronic, Snap, Run Dmc, Boss, Naughty by Nature can evoke smile today. For M12 they significate high school in the manipulation with sound and I believe they have overrun their models in many aspects. Regarding their apparatus the legend called Atari dominated at the beginning. Later, in 1993 a little bit better Amiga 500.
The ancient computer on which many similar young guys sharpened their cybersonic skills. The 4-channel Protracker, together with in a family way created digitizer enabled sampling from cassettes and TV at least what could sound like one from the Verne’s stories but M12 haven’t stagnated on any primitive sound. On the contrary. In the hard ages of beginnings they learned to utilize the technology as possible.
In 1994 Tomáš buys his first PC 386 and soon afterwards the best amateur sound card at the market – Gravis Ultrasound Max. With midi interface, Fastrackern and later on leasing bought thone generator XG Yamaha MU-80 the home studio moves to the league of other comparable home studios. Like if a movie takes colors. As it goes with the electronic projects in the epochs of looking for a selfidentity, rhytmics and sound, also Majestics have changed some names. Fascinated by the wildness of rave music and by the solid sound of Ministry, hardcore and Sepultura named themselves Decomposing Fish, then Psychotix for a short while and in 1995 definitively Majestic Twelve.
In that time they already visit concerts and actions called Hard Nights in C19 where FČfa used to play as Dj Arnoštek. The events from the years 1996 – 98 are very inflated and so they are filed only somewhere in memory and little bit compressed. At the beginning stood a new technical assistant – a sampler, more productive computer, keyboard and many people interested in music. Their first live performance – in the style of techno and hardhouse yet – took place at a disco in Kněževes in 1996. They throw other parties with Míra Oplt in Makotřasy and Stehelčeves.
After meeting Dj Zjook they move their music more to trance and deep house. In 1996 the grandmother of Martin Bártl financed the cost of their first disc and Martin Kermes helps to edit and distribute it. 12“ disc Terra Nova contains 4 techno tracks and attracts interest of Radio 1. It follows the new cd Isolation edited in serie of 50 pieces by Martin Kermes under the title Stromecheckitout records.
The interest of Radio 1 is on increase. Even Standa Zíma notices M12 like one of the most interesting formations and big hope of Czech music scene. Soon afterwards Radio 1 edits selection Future Sound of Prague and there is one track by Majestic Twelve too! Release party of the selectin proceeds in XT3. There is also shooted a short interview for the tv programme Paskvil. After meeting with instrumentally more advanced Cholda (Petr Víšek from Slaný) Majestic 12 begin to play more live.
Karolína Rymešová completes the sound with her saxofon, Martin buys congos, Pavel Holeček lends his keyboard and so after some time in the test room of C19 Majestic Twelve sets on some live concerts off. In their concert line up appear people like Mc Gold , with record players Dj Caballero, David Rubek alias Jantar as a concert manager and a mascot of podium and hemp performer Péťa Knížek. Majestic 12 then took part in the legend cybersoul action called Projekt Sprcha (Project Shower) in C19. At the end of this concert line comes the offer from Honza Kvasnička from Radio 1 to publicate another track "Little Antarctic Trip“ on the selection called Inform, released in Punto Azul, the newly creating label Quazidelict records. The same track appeared in one supplement of Tripmag too and without their knowledge has appeared on TV yet several times.
But Tomáš with Martin don’t mind it. In these days Majestic Twelve produce in their studio. They don’t think about publicating or selling. They have already refused live concerting in Roxy and the production of a signature tune of Paskvil for several times. I really adore things and events where money or fame aren’t the driving force.
These producers are closer to create something newer something what exceeds the modern trends and overruns it yet. Majestic 12 are no visionaries and their music doesn’t speak to crowds. On the contrary, their music is comparable with the one which you can find in catalogues of Good Looking Records or Ninja Tune. Their track ăDay Break“ from their last works I have to place next to my favourite tracks of P*Taah, Kaidi Tatham, Gypsy, Orbital and the others. At the time CzechTech becomes the most comercial event here the music of Majestic Twelve reminds a forgotten sense for well-being.
