Richard Pedlow aka hBPM was born in a small rural South Carolina town in 1976. Spending the first ten years of his life living on a working farm in north western Pennsylvania his first exposure to music was through his parents rather eclectic record collection and the sounds of early 80s college radio. New-Wave and Synth-Pop had a heavy influence on his formative years. In the early nineties Richard discovered acid house, EBM and techno music.

During his junior and senior years of high school Richard fronted several bands but found little in common with the punk and lo-fi acts he was involved with eventually turning his attention toward electronic music production. In 1996 the concept of hBPM was born but with little access to equipment his dreams would have to wait. In early 2000 while rummaging through the bargain bin at a local big box retailer he found some inexpensive loop based software and began production on several ep releases. Roughly the same period of time Richard was introduced to another mad scientist of music Graham Brinkert.

The two went on to found Amalga-Rhythm Records and have worked together on several projects including the RLG Trio and Second Echelon. In 2008 Richard released his first new EP in several years titled End of Sound, which in 2009 was re-released with extra material marking the beginning of a brief hiatus from making music. In early 2010 an official announcement was issued stating the pending release of Shumway's Comet- Transmission 1 a psuedo side project and promises of new hBPM material. Read more on Last.fm.
