Created by guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Michael MacBroom (The Killing Spree) and drummer Joe Dougan (Corrigan), in 2005, Gaju are a dynamic four piece, with bassist Ricki O'Rawe (The Killing Spree) and vocalist Karen Kinghan, completing this quartet. They began gigging in 2006 playing their first show in Belfast's Pavilion Bar, alongside Heliopause and Boxes. The opening song of their set, Ex for Exchange, was the bridge between The Killing Spree's angular, stream of consciousness style experimentation and Gaju's more straight ahead, blistering, sonic assaults. Aptly Michael, almost as if in deferrence to his Killing Spree days, broke a string and cut his thum, spilling blood onto his guitar.

Since then their live shows have become tighter and more disciplined, and the band are now living off their own reputation, rather than that of their previous bands; a reputation that is growing with each performance. There's a bit of a dance groove to the songs, and Karen's sometime passionate, sometime melodious vocals add a lot to their sound. Gaju played for the last time at the Curfew Festival in Belfast in July 2007. Various members went on to play in Desert Hearts, Not Squares and to make a feature length film called 'I wanted to talk to you last night'. Read more on Last.fm.
