Barry Johnson's music is a big plate of rock-infused rhythms and drive with a healthy pinch of soul, slathered with a heaping helping of gospel-inspired ingredients like B3 organ, soulful background vocals, and altar-call-wailing guitars. Co-produced by legendary Allman Brothers audio guru Bud Snyder, Barry's latest CD "Tenacious Grace" is steeped in all the classic rock guitar tones and soul-beckoning B3 organ riffs you’d expect from Snyder’s influence. Some have compared Barry's music to the likes of John Mayer, One Republic, Eric Clapton, Santana and Steve Winwood. Guess they couldn't make up their minds. At 11 years old while living in Tulsa, Barry's folks bought him his first guitar; a red hollow body Rickenbacker knock-off. Played it through a small Kalamazoo 12 inch speaker amp. He studied under a local country music artist, learning the current hits of the day.

After a couple of years the family moved to Florida. Barry parked the guitar to the side for the drums, which his dad bought from a starving University of Florida student. It was an older Ludwig kit with a white pearl finish and some great Zildjian cymbals. Barry got his start playing and singing in high school bands and vocal ensembles, performing for churches, youth groups, prisons and various state facilities throughout Florida, and even churches as far away as England. This was a catalyst that inspired Barry to move overseas, eventually to Amsterdam, Holland where he lived for several years, touring throughout Europe and the US. Barry has performed in a lot of interesting venues; Dutch National television, Belgian National radio, from South East Asian refugee camps to stages and streets all over Europe and the US.

He has played along side legendary Gospel singer Jessie Dixon, CCM artists Tommy Walker and Karen Lafferty, and The Allman Bros. guitarist Dan Toler. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
