The Zulu Leprechauns is a contemporary band formed and based in Maine, USA around 1993. The current lineup of musicians includes Annegret Baier on percussion, violin and vocals, Jim Schwellenbach on electric dulcimer, banjo and vocals, John Shaw on bass, vocals, rusty cowbell and & rain stick and Jeff Howe on percussion. Self-described as an "eclectic folk-rock group that plays a mix of original and familiar music, incorporating styles from West African, rock & roll, bluegrass and folk," Zulu Leprechauns incorporates an unusual amount of instruments in their music, such as a homemade electric dulcimer played by Jim Schwellenbach as if it were a guitar. Percussion sounds from around the world accompany his singing as well as large vocal participation by the rest of the group.

According to John Shaw, many of the band's songs are inspired by local experiences and events, such as the song Union Boys and its references to the dying mill towns in Maine and the role of the mighty Kennebec river in the local economy and history. Relating music to home and abroad, as well as performing unique covers of popular rock and folk songs gives the Zulu Leprechauns a sound different from all other local acts.
