As Young Elite explains it " my brother is eight years older than me and I would see him rapping and writing rhymes and one day just being the baby and a pest I started trying to distract him and he was like sit down, try to write some rhymes and let me see what you get (laughs) so I did and I started spitting and he was like that's not bad for your first rap. So he would tell me keep working on it and you might have something (laughs) so that's really how I first started rapping". Young Elite quickly evolved and began recording at the tender age of twelve. As young Elite explains it " I can remember my brother had signed to an independent label and he was like they wanted to test me and see if I was ready for the recording process because they wanted to sign a young female MC and they had an interest in signing me. so I had to spit for the president of the label and when my brother picked me up he was like you can't be scared you gotta go all in and kill it and I was like scared of what? (laughs) I been ready, I had been waiting for that day for so long.
So I went around there and it was like a dozen of people or more (laughs) it took me by suprise but I had no fear I just started spittin and the crowd went crazy." "Although, they wanted to sign me; my brother and mom was like let's see what happens with my brother's career first and see where the label can take him and then we'll work on your career if everything works out for him." Ultimately, the deal went sour for Young Elite's brother and the label eventually went under.
