Yann Viet, Marc Eliard and Sylvain Gontard have known each other and played together for many years. They regularly perform within a jazz quartet (featuring drummer Michel Jullien) dedicated to Yann Viet’s compositions and arrangements. Over the last two decades Marc and Yann have also taken part together in various musical projects. The “trumpet/guitar/bass guitar” trio was officially born in June 2008 after playing first part of Sara Lazarus, Birelli Lagrene and André Cecarelli concert during the Pavillon-sous-bois jazz festival. They were at the time warmly supported by classical guitarist and musicologist Michel-Yves Maurienne.

The music recorded and played by the trio, partly consists of songs chosen among French poets and composers such as Georges Brassens, Barbara, Serge Gainsbourg, Charles Aznavour or Michel Legrand, but also American jazz standards and of course original songs and compositions by Yann Viet. The use of varied instruments and timbres : steel or nylon strings for the guitars, fretless or fretted bass guitars, double bass or acoustic bass, bugle, muted (or not) trumpet, results in a very full and rich acoustic sound, with an overall impression and feeling of great intimacy and closeness. The idea of a guitar, trumpet and bass guitar trio is uncommon and original. It reminds us though of Chet Baker’s trio in the 70s and the 80s, featuring guitarists such as Philippe Catherine and Doug Rainey. Read more on Last.fm.
