Witchdoctor Wise, an MC for cult underground Brighton-based collective Lost Souls and the London/Brighton/Poland-based Skillmega crew, has completed his long-awaited debut solo album, 'Trapped in the Asylum', to be released on new imprint Heroic Records in the spring of 2007. While many hiphop 'albums' are in reality just a compilation of random tracks, 'Trapped in the Asylum' was conceived as a self-contained album from the start, which can be listened to from start to finish as a cohesive whole, and which takes the listener on a journey going from traditional hip hop bangers, through irresistible crossover party hits, on to grimy darkness, and finally into a period of mellow reflection and musical experimentation. A wide range of UK production's finest new hopes were enlisted to achieve this eclectic feel, including 184 (Last Minute Records), Tom Caruana (The Menagerie's 'Wild Kingdom' LP, Wordsmith's 'Roadman Showcase' LP, Breakin' Bread), Steve Clear (Rup the Cnut's 'Rup on Zebra' LP), The Evil Sun (HP - 'Double Damage'), Biji Talls (Lost Souls, Greenkeepers), and Rob Crespo (Monkeysons), as well as Polish superstar producer/MC OSTR (Asfalt records). Witchdoctor Wise used this incredibly talented array of beatsmiths to create a very varied soundscape for his equally disparate range of subject matters, ensuring that the listener's attention is held fast for every single minute of the hour-long album.

In addition to the wide range of production styles, an element of variation is provided by the guest vocals of such up-and-coming microphone dons as Dr. Syntax (Beer and Rap, Foreign Beggars), Rup the Cnut (Zebra Traffic), Devise (Dupa Styles), Naim (TM Juke 'Forward' /Hear Today Records) and Iris (Mole & Iris), as well as guest spots from his Lost Souls/Skillmega compadres Mr J, Freecy D and Reps. A number of the tracks from this album have already become classics to the audiences Witchdoctor Wise has played to over the last couple of years. Indeed, he puts as much emphasis on rocking a live show as he does on making a polished album, and has over the years played hundreds of shows in a wide range of venues across London, Brighton, Sheffield, Bath, Manchester, Bristol, Poland and the Czech Republic, either as a headline act or supporting a range of US and UK artists including Public Enemy, the Beatnuts, Blak Twang, Roots Manuva and Skinnyman.

A number of live dates are planned for 2007. One track from 'Trapped in the Asylum' featured on the August 2006 Hip Hop Connection cover CD, which proceeded to drum up a great deal of positive feedback and interest in the album, including radio airplay in Finland, Australia and the US, as well as resulting in Witchdoctor Wise becoming a regular on the playlists of Radio 1's Steve Lamacq back in the UK. November 16th 2007 is the date for Witchdoctor Wise' debut release in Poland (Asfalt Records). (25/09/07) Read more on Last.fm.
