He doesnt like to think of his work as music, rather as tracks of discovery and his ultimate would be to find a sound that has never been heard before. The everyday world of sound and how it is organized has been remains a trigger for Vic's musical compositions. By using samples & loops, he captures these sounds and transforms them into musical form. His recordings are an attempt to replicate nature and how it operates. He is interested in a more free floating sound world as opposed to one where " horizontal and vertical editing create a more block-like sound." The musical ideas of the likes of John Cage, Brian Eno, Haffler Trio, Max Eastly, Morton Feldman, David Toop, Steve Reich and Philip Glass have all been seminal influences in finding his own current musical direction. The joy he finds in his musical creations is being immersed in "A kind of loose soundfield where things can happen from any direction around you." In his music he aspires to push the listener into an undefined place in space. As opposed to a linear direction where there is a definate beginning, middle and ending. "Theories about notation don't interest me.
I have theories about music but know nothing about musical theories." In the recording process, he prefers to start with something sparse where there is lots of leeway to overlay improvisations. Through his music, it is his intention to create an atmosphere which enriches the natural environment, allows space, enhances rather than obliterates what is already there.
