In short: a distinct musical language. Years on the road and in studios have let Velvetone mature not only as musicians, but also made them very aware of what they are doing! This was affirmed by headliners like Wanda Jackson, Willy de Ville, Brian Setzer and Die Ärzte, who invited Velvetone to collaborate or play shows together. Velvetone are among the most accomplished bands when it comes to digging deeply into the dirty roots of Rock Music to uncover its hidden facets. Embedded in a sound reminiscent of bands like the similarly eclectic Calexico or Los Lobos, we find tasteful originals and select cover songs, crowned by Ray DeVaryo’s crooning. Velvetone not only embrace the heritage of rock, but keep developing what they love passionately: Country, Cajun, Rhythm’n’Blues and their common offspring, Rock’n’Roll. On stage is where Velvetone are really at home. Here, Ray DeVaryo’s charisma unfolds and the band’s immaculate interplay generates explosive live shows. It is then that the arcane, dark power emerges, that Velvetone’s archaic, yet timeless Roots Rock exudes. Greasy Rock'n'Roll, R&B, Rockabilly, Soul, Country... Roots Rock á la Velvetone! 2009 Wolverine Records release a compilation of alternative country: 'Ride The Pale Horse': Wolverine Records/Soulfood (CD WR 154) "Mormon Girl" - a mean Country tune about the hormon whirl caused by religious irritation. Appearing Fred ‘Flip’ Möhlmann, Velvetone's live engineer & buddy, on mouth harp. Another exclusive track is released on a compilation: 'Alle Gegen Alle - A Tribute To Slime' Sunny Bastards/Broken Silence "Krüppel" - a German language Punk tune written by the legendary SLIME, who invited them to join their compilation.

Pure fun! They were honored by Slime guitarist Elf who took care of the flat top box, and allowed them to avoid any overdubs - Thanx, Elf! 2008 CrossCut Records release the CD 'Yip-Yip' in January 2008. Limited edition split release on vinyl & CD, released in December 2008, Velvetone b/w Liquid Laughter Lounge Quartet 'Favoritenserie No.3' - VINYL 10"-LP & CD Rhythm Island Records/Flight 13 (RIR 3). Atmospheric, dark & rockin’ songs, including Velvetone’s first instrumental ever as a greet to their compadres from the Black Forest. Plus their rendition of Bill Collins’ track ‘Cash Is Gone’. 2007 To deliver a foretaste of the following full CD album release, 'Yip-Yip!' (CCD 12010), CrossCut Records decided to offer a special vinyl edition featuring two soulful tracks from the album, 'Lil' Bad Thing' / 'Seven'. The white vinyl version was limited to 250 copies, numbered (CCR 4501 LTD). 2005 'Switchback Ride' is released, and the band shows up in May at the Hemsby Rock'n'Roll Weekender, the Belgian Sjock Festival in 2006, and many, many places along and off the German autobahn and accross the borders. 2001 CrossCut Records, Europe's finest record label for roots & blues related music, gets to be the band's new musical home, starting with 'Dark Blossom' (CCD 12003). The video 'Violent Man' is released, and Velvetone play support shows for the Brian Setzer Trio, Willy DeVille a.o., all over Germany. 1998 One Million $ Records release Velvetone's first CD 'Vari-O-Sonic' (OMD $ 031). 1996 Bear Family Records release the band's debut 10"-vinyl record 'Velvetone' (B10 10002).
