Subtle buildups, sound effects, melancholydies, and “narcotically sweet” female backing vocals all fit well together to serve as an eerily relaxing vehicle to convey subtle messages of tempered hope, loss and despair. The band's name (pronounced yoo-bik) was inspired by an unnerving Philip K. Dick story - in which a homogenized world is run silent by an ambiguous organization that creates, produces & distributes everything in existence. Products from hairspray to lemon pepper are all sold under the “Ubyk” brand and art, music & media are no exceptions. Following a 40 gig independent North/Southwest Tour in support of their 2006 demo-debut release “work”, the band (Roman Bluem and singer/songwriter Samantha Tobey sharing vocal/instrumentation duties) hooked up with producer Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Mars Volta, Two Gallants) and went into the studio in 2008 to record their debut EP “Matryoshka” It is NOW currently available on ITUNES, CDbaby and from their respective (and wasteful) vehicles. In the bands own words, "PLEASE BUY OUR MUSIC SO WE CAN MAKE MORE MUSIC" Ubyk’s lineup has since expanded into a ”mostly” acoustic five-piece and they are performing live through the end of 2008 in Los Angeles venues Tangier, AC Supper Club, Alter knit Lounge and El Cid.
