Top $ Raz

Defining his style as Ready to Die-meets-Midnight Marauders, this Far Rockaway Queens emcee evidently has the hunger and knack for detail as the beloved Biggie Smalls did, tied in with the elegance, finesse, and melody of A Tribe Called Quest. Top $ Raz has never held back in attempting to be amongst the best of the best, and he certainly raps about what is real and sincere to him; absolutely no gimmicks. Top $ Raz (real name Rasheem Johnson) has been interested in hip hop since grade 2, and has been rapping publicly since he was 16, even putting out his first album out at that young age. Prior to his interest in being an emcee, Raz has always been interested in street stories and uses the microphone as a vehicle to tell others, quite vividly, how he sees the game of life. Maturing both inside and outside of the booth since his last release, The Narrative, Top $ Raz has appeared on stage with other NY underground heavy weights like Homeboy Sandman and FinaL OutlaW.

With his latest project, Spilled Milk, Raz has taken the next step on his journey to being a supreme emcee. Receiving favorable criticism from RapReviews.com, AboveGroundMagazine.com, and getting featured on respected websites like iHeartDilla.com, OnSmash.com, FreeHipHopNow.com, YungDrew.com, Birthplacemag.com and TheBreezyEffect.com, Top $ Raz is already further embarking on his path towards success with this release. Spilled Milk While you shouldn’t cry over spilled milk, you can certainly rap about it. “We can definitely vent about the events that have shaped us, but there shouldn’t be tears,” claims Raz, “There is no time to cry [about spilled milk]. Keep it moving.” Lyrically, Spilled Milk is an album of “truth and sincerity.” Musically, the LP is a “soulful, yet, future-sound.” A majority of the project is horn-infused with a pleasant, synthetic modern twist to it, demanding playback for years on end.

Furthermore, showing true maturity since his last release, Top $ Raz has put focus on album structure and concept. This state of mind has lead to a much more honest and in-depth project with a precise thesis. The features are minimal, but meaningful. The welcomed guests are Kalil Kash, Vithym, Mike Love, and Scienze, all of which enhance the project.

“When it comes to features, you should only do them if it’s going to make the song concept stronger,” says Raz of his album’s construction. This logic also explains the strong production on Spilled Milk. “I’m lucky enough to have a lot of producers that believe in what I do and are all people that I like working with.” Top $ Raz is very particular about his beat selection, “I need beats that immediately pull out an emotion from me.” Consequentially, the production lineup consisting of Terrence Thinker Kelly, Imagine That, Terrestrial Papo, Courtley Dennis, Badd Luck, and Harold Mccummings compliment Top $ Raz’s style, lyrics, and passion for delivering good music. Raz doesn't just write from the perspective of having nothing and wanting it all, he imagines himself as the protagonist (or antagonist) in a variety of scenarios and tells stories.

- Steve “Flash” Juon (Editor-in-Chief of Rapreviews.com) "Introspective lyrics enticing a rewind-and-come-again"- Birthplacemag.com “I come across emcees every day from professionals like Tanya Morgan and Pack FM, to open mic up and comers like YC the Cynic and Top $ Raz, who are making phenomenal music and putting on phenomenal performances. We’re getting stronger every day. It’s going forward towards the creation of hip hop that will be looked at as music first and foremost” - Homeboy Sandman (NY Hip Hop Artist) “His lyrical swag is straight 2009, yet [he] has the feel of the great, braggadocio-filled joints from the Golden Era” - Crys Breezy- (Editor-in-chief of TheBreezyEffect.com) “Hardcore slick talk, real rap skills + substance. There’s really no denying the kid” - Conscious Walker (Journalist for FreeHipHopNow.com) Contact Info: Booking: topdollagotit@gmail.com www.topdollagotit.com Twitter: www.twitter.com/topdollagotit Read more on Last.fm.
