The Infamous Ocean-Borns
The Infamous Ocean-Borns
He is known for his fascination with all things Victorian, stilted and verbose speech and his baritone voice. He used to play with the band Driftwood Skyes but has since departed. Sam Lloyd, a resident of North Hampton, has been taking piano lessons since he was 8 and cannot play full songs by ear but can, in fact, read music. Sam is similarly verbose, and has a fascination with the occult which he swears has been there for as long as he can remember. He recorded a few songs under the solo project Axiom but for the most part writes only for The Infamous Ocean-Borns now.
He can also play an acoustic guitar. Both Sam and Jordan possess a penchant for naming their instruments. Sam's piano, a Korg SP-250 is named Euphemia, his little keyboard is Sophronia, and the guitar is Odessa. Jordan's keyboard is named Chordelia. The name comes from a New Hampshire (the state from which they hail) legend about Ocean-Born Mary: [from hollowhill.com] Mary Wilson was born at sea on July 17th, 1720 (according to the old calendar), soon after her parents set sail from Londonderry, Ireland, aboard the ship, the Wolf. As the ship neared Boston harbor, it was boarded by pirates, led by the ruthless--but very young and handsome--Don Pedro. Don Pedro learned that there was a newborn aboard, and offered to let the Wolf and its passengers continue their voyage, unharmed, if the Wilsons would name the baby "Mary," after his beloved mother. The Wilsons eagerly agreed, and Don Pedro honored his promise. Ocean-Born Mary would later die on February 13, 1814. The band love all things Steampunk, and as such, claim that they lived in Europe and built an airship that crashed across the Atlantic. Their blog describes them as such: "Once, in a land far away, there were two young gentlemen in waistcoats and derby hats.
Neither could resist the call of the dirigible, and so they combined their creative powers and built the most beautiful specimen of lighter-than-aircraft ever known to man: the Imperia. Her maiden voyage took the gentlemen high above the earth, and afforded them unobstructed views of all the ocean's beauty (as well as clean air, for it was from a filthy, modern city that they made their great escape). Alas, the voyage was to end in tragedy. A terrible storm swallowed them, and Imperia crashed and dashed herself to matchwood on the New Hampshire coast.
An enraged cry split the skies. In the end, the only parts salvageable were the instruments used by the crew. In order to begin again in this strange new world with new names and faces, the two gentlemen had to earn their living by crafting expert folk cabaret music. One day soon, they will take to the skies again and reclaim the ocean that is theirs in the dirigible that they loved.
Such is the tale of the Ocean-Borns." This is just an example of the persona the Infamous Ocean-Borns have adopted. They have been known to claim to be French noblemen straight out of the 1700s among other things. Their debut album is to be called The Drownèd Pyrophone and Other Tragic Tales.
