The Coloured Lights
The Coloured Lights
Specifically, the record was received enthusiastically at University Campus radio in Toronto, Montreal, Kitchener, Guelph and London as well as at commercial radio stations in Denmark, Italy, England and Portugal. Notable performances have been the two on-air live performances at 89.5 CIUT Radio Toronto leading up to the two exciting showcase performances organized by Upp Records at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and the Café Campus in Montreal. Last spring's university campus tour saw the band play to student crowds across Ontario and Quebec supported by a sponsorship with Mazda. This partnership came about when Mazda held an online independent songwriting contest judged by editors of Spin Magazine, with a goal of finding a track to attach to Mazda's Campus Joyride advertising campaign. “Float Not Fly” from "A Six Track Demo" was selected for the campaign, and pleased with the results of this arrangement, Mazda and Upp Records enacted an agreement to sponsor the band's tour.
Heeding the success of the demo, the supporting tours and the online presence, Upp Records decided in February of 2007 to sponsor the recording of a full length LP at Nada Yoga studios in Montreal. Fast forwarding to November 2007, and The Coloured Lights have released their Debut album, Twelve Steps to Space. The record reflects a sophomore sound and production level for the band, as well as a new philosophical direction. Specifically, the band's message of compassion comes through the medium as well: In conjunction with Upp Records, Sketch Charity and the United Nations World Food Program, "Twelve Steps to Space" has been made available online as a free download for listeners.
The record and movement mark an initiative to promote the idea that we all have the ability to change things for the better, even with our smallest gestures. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
