With practice, young Michael Radford (aka Letters for Saints), whose tunes are at once accommodating and haunting, may add to those ranks.” -CNet In 2012, Michael began to take his musical efforts more seriously. He changed his stage name to The Citizen Shine and in August released his first EP. This collection of five solo acoustic tracks, dubbed "Alabama Child" - a title taken from one of the EP's songs - was made available on Bandcamp on August 31, 2012, and will soon be available in the iTunes and Amazon MP3 music stores. His plan is to make enough money with this sparse acoustic EP to fund the creation of a full-length album, which he hopes to release some time next year. "At the end of the day, I hope I'm not just a guy writing songs," he says. "When I write a song, I'm not just throwing words against a melody.

At least, I hope that's not the case. What my goal is, is connection. My goal is to communicate feeling, communicate thought. Share emotion.

That's what music's all about. Hell, that's what art is - it's an attempt at pure communication. It's reaching out and trying to touch the soul. It's trying to send a message in the purest way possible.

Music's a great medium for that. It's so intrinsic. Maybe that's not the right word. It's so.

. . It's so natural. The way our consciousness responds to it - it's unbelievable, the amount of feeling we can absorb through simple mathematical scales and rhythms set to poetry.

No one's alone in feeling. We've all felt. Maybe that's where it comes from. Maybe all these songs that touch our lives in such unique ways are just.

. . catalysts for something that's already inside us. Some sort of magic that we all share.

The magic of feeling." Michael Radford currently lives in Kennewick, WA. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
