sunderland based pop scientists the bubble project play a subtle blend of surf rock, electro pop and pure noise. an amalgam of genres, styles and ideas, featuring beautiful female scientists, broken hearted robots and love born in outer space. refereed to as ‘retro futurists’ due to their lo-fi, noisy, raw and under produced mono-phonic recordings, yet embracing technology in an abundance of samples, synths and electronic gadgets intended for children. with a sci-fi surf sound similar to man or astroman?, and a love of truer surf acts such as link wray and the phantom surfers, they also mix in elements of 80s synth pop and noise pop bands such as the B52s. the bubble project create a sound that would act as the perfect soundtrack to the comics of american artist james kochalka or ed wood’s version of the wizard of oz. their live shows have become notorious for being a chaotic, almost shambolic, immensely loud wall of sound and light.

their surf sound sometimes causing confusion, a bit like the meat puppets when they started playing country to punk crowds. in an indie scene overpopulated by bands obsessed with disco beats and angular guitars, the bubble project are a band pushing in the opposite direction, thinking outside the square, blending surf, pop and noise together and enjoying themselves doing it. "receiving plaudits and repulsion in equal measure, one thing's for certain: you cannot ignore them". Read more on Last.fm.
