The Black Sunn
The Black Sunn
By doing so, The Black Sunn gives his listeners a surreal and gripping look into his every day life. Music has always been a mainstay for The Black Sunn since his early childhood when his brother would DJ and play records in the house. According to him, “I remember listening to (such records as) Wu-Tang’s “C.R.E.A.M.” and EPMD’s “Crossover” and I was hooked to hip hop immediately.” He first picked up a pen in the 4th grade and has been creating music ever since. Being faced with several family deaths at the age of 10, The Black Sunn was forced to grow mentally strong at a young age and gravitate more towards music as an escape. Freshman year of high school marks his initiation into the Hip Hop scene as he discovered GZA’s classic album ‘Liquid Swords’.
It was listening to this album that inspired him to start writing about his own life and to pursue music seriously. Even though future adversities would confront The Black Sunn and force him to take a deep look at his future, (such as his senior year of HS when he was expelled) he had already decided what he really wanted from life. He knew he had to answer his calling and share his music with the world. In 2009 The Black Sunn released Born Alone, Die Alone, a mixtape hosted by illroots.com, exclusively produced by the Miami beatsmith known as Mydus. From this point on his career began to take shape.
He earned the respect of major blogs and a fan base that continues to increase daily. His next project, GodSound, was his most important to date; hosted by the high-profile websites 2dopeboyz.com, illroots.com and local urban clothing boutique, PedX Baltimore. The Black Sunn was awarded “Best New Artist” at the 2009 Baltimore Crown Awards and plans to be at the forefront of the hip-hop scene in not only Charm city but the world. He was featured in the July 14th, 2010 edition of the Baltimore City Paper.
Black Sunn is currently working on a new project with fellow Baltimore emcee 810 entitled United Division and a solo album both of which are scheduled to be out by late 2010-early 2011. “With a poetic lyrical sensibility and plenty of appeal, The Black Sunn is clearly poised to go far in the game.” -DJBooth.net “He has a sound like none other, and his words reflect the reality of the world we all live in.” -ArizeMag.com “I’m admitting my zZzZz and giving credit where credit is do.
