Tears of a Doll

Tears of a Doll (that became Tear of a Doll) were formed in October 1988 as a sequel to Heimat-los by three remaining members just after their brilliant bassist left the band. Tears of a Doll (that became Tear of a Doll) were formed in October 1988 as a sequel to Heimat-los by three remaining members just after their brilliant bassist left the band. They were joined by two new members including former Kromozom 4 guitarist Nydeu (Denis). They kept developping hardcore by adding original melodies as well as new sounds that had just emerged in Northern America such as jazzcore and post-hardcore. Incidentally they also wrote the first emo song in France “The Draft” (1988) which included a cello part.

Their second guitarist Nydeu quit them on stage at Printemps de Bourges festival 1992 causing the singer to quit. So the band decided to turn their bad fate into something positive : a new start would quickly develop a new experimental form of hardcore music. By then there was only one Heimat-los member left (Francois aka Naing Naing). The new singer they found, Astrid, was a female which even changed the sound more.

In january 1993 they recorded their third demo “La fille aux allumettes”, the first in the newer style. In November 1994 they recorded a fourth tape “Une araignée dans le plafond” with their sixth drummer. It was slower with complex structures and featured several indian instruments. During that recording session they dropped the S of their name upon recommendation of the sound engineer Flox which language skills was trusted for being half-english and TOD become Tear of a Doll.
