Sydney act (Australia) : With their frenetic and crunchy guitar driven sound, Sydney band SILO have emerged as one of the brightest acts on the local scene. Their sound is raw and aggressive, spliced with all the requisite pop hooks and refusing to wallow in superficial angst.
The three piece, led by charismatic duo Sophie Hyde (bass and vocals) and Wayan Norris (guitar) and backed up by Martin Crouch on drums, have recently signed a deal with new Melbourne label In-Fidelity. SILO plan to shortly begin recording with high profile producer Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios, before undertaking a tour of Melbourne and Brisbane. It’s been a rapid rise for the group, but one which they are more than equipped to handle. Wayan and Sophie, the creative nucleus of SILO, met up several years ago.
“A mutual friend tipped us both off”, Wayan says. “Sophie sought me out at the pub where I worked and left me her number on the back of a beer coaster since I wasn’t working that night. I phoned here and it just seemed to work out. Martin joined us shortly after”.
