Argentinian, Buenos Aires-based musician/composer Sebastian Escofet came to the attention of the English speaking world when his "Meditaciones #2" (a reworking of Claude Debussy's Clair de Lune) was used in a mobile phone advert (the Siemens SL55). It subsequently appeared on a number of downtempo/chill-type compilations. The track itself was part of an album (Meditaciones) made up entirely of tracks built from heavily reworked samples of classical composers (amongst whom Arvo Pärt, Kevin Volans, Igor Stravinsky, and Béla Bartok), which was released on the Asterisco label in 2001. It forms part of a wider output in the ambient/electroacoustic fields, including his soundtracks for films (Pura Sangre directed by Leo Ricciardi, and Próxima Salida directed by Nicolas Touzzo) and plays (Juego Divino, devised and performed by the Los Cazurros company). He has also collaborated with the Kronos Quartet (on their 2002 Nuevo album), and contributed a remix of Philip Glass's Tirol Concerto for Piano and Orchestra to the 2005 Glass Cuts album.
