When not in Belgium, his current homeland, he travels across Europe and worldwide to perform with diverse musicians, bringing to life the concept of world citizen. This specific identity has given birth to a complex-but -coherent musical universe. His inspiration finds its source in traditional Martinique rhythms and musical styles such as mazurka, biguine, zouk or maloya. African and Indian sounds are also a big part of his musical identity, whereas jazz music is the much-needed link which enables those influences to coexist.

The artist also grants improvisation a key role in his musical creation process. Easily detectable on stage, it also appears quite obviously when listening to his first album “Fo Pas Oublié ça”. Having learnt guitar by himself, to add to a more traditional drummer background, must have formed –at least partly- this trend and capacity. The lyrics are sung as well in French as in English or Creole (the language of native Martinique people). He’s even created a sort of combination of those languages, which makes his voice, when singing this way, a true instrument. This first album, “Fo Pas Oublié ça”, is mostly the result of several encounters; with Raphaël Chevé, a drummer with whom Sam would develop musical activities over the years, in Sam’s Belgium or in Raphaël’s Brittany.

And with Daravan Souvanna (bass guitar), whose musical thirst easily compensated a relative inexperience. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
