Collesano brought along his friend Robert Tweedie who was experimenting using keys, samples and turntables long before they were a typical band feature. The three played without a bassist until they found James Colquitt playing his "last show" with a local Niagara Falls band. With the addition of Colquitt Salt peter was officially born. In 2000 they released their first CD entitled NaNO3 on the Love Canal Entertainment label.
In 2005 Collesano quit the band and was replaced by former Kama Sutra drummer Steve Puglisi. In 2005 NaNO3 was distributed internationally from Berlin. Between 2006 and 2010 SP continued to play and record, sharing the stage with everyone from Grand Funk Railroad to Blue Oyster Cult to Rusted Root. While remaining a vicious live act the addition of their own studio led to further experimentation and broadening of an already tough to nail down sound.
In late 2011 they will release their second full length effort entitled Ameraka. Salt Peter's members were all born in Lewiston or Niagara Falls, New York. Their influences range from Miles Davis to Hendrix to Fantomas. Their music incorporates about every genre but Country.
