Born and raised in New Zealand, Ryan Edwards is a singer with an earthy voice, and a songwriter who knows the combination of a great hook, melody, and lyric. Brought up on artists ranging from Sam Cooke to Crowded House, and inspired by the likes of Counting Crows and Tracy Chapman, the biggest impact on his own music came from Van Morrison and Paul Simon, influences you can detect in his own songs today. Ryan started out his career behind the microphone, not as a vocalist, but as a radio presenter. After training in broadcasting and doing the rounds of Wellington radio stations, he and his flatmate decided it was time to trial life in the big city. The flatmate lasted in London for just four months, and for Ryan it's 10 years and counting. Ryan has performed on the London and Dublin acoustic scenes, headlined cultural festivals, and had songs broadcast on BBC radio and cable music tv. It was while he was in New York to see Simon and Garfunkel that he met up with producer and renowned soundman Danny Kadar.

After a night trading stories and drinking whisky the decision was made that one day they would work together. That day came in early 2005 when Ryan and Asa Bennett flew out to New Orleans to record three songs in Kadar's downtown studio. The haunting Carolina, catchy Love Is and gospel-tinged Meant for Me showed what could happen with great people and great energy. The songs are even more poignant with the knowledge that nine months later the studio was left ruined by the floodwaters that followed Hurricane Katrina. The songs were positively received by industry professionals, and whilst no record deals were forthcoming, there is certainly an awareness of his songs and an enthusiasm for the results of future projects.
