Two thousand and nine was a busy year for Sydney based Indie Rock/Pop artists Rumour On Florence. Working swiftly on their heavily acoustic influenced debut Consequence released in November, the band have since engrossed themselves in evolving and defining their sound for the modern world. With influences that include many acts from the psychedelic 60’s, the 70’s blues explosion and the 90’s grunge scene, Rumour On Florence bring to the table an intoxicating blend of old and new. The quartet featuring singer/guitarist Stephen Rosenbladh, guitarist/keyboardist Ryan Fitzhenry, bassist Adric Spearpoint and drummer William Pippen, all of which come from very similar but different musical backgrounds are really beginning to come into their own. “The new material we are writing now is a whole world away from our humble beginnings,” Rosenbladh explains. “We are gelling really well and it’s so exciting writing and collaborating together properly as a band, such natural evolution, and nothing I’ve been apart of before, it’s goose bump stuff!” After forming in early 2009 and launching the band in May the majority of the artistic direction and vision came from Rosenbladh, in fact the five tracks that appear on Consequence were all penned by the singer songwriter, including standout track and crowd favourite Self Centred. Summer 09/10 saw the band promote Consequence rigorously with a tour through major hubs of NSW and the release of two film clips for the harder edged, emotionally charged Self Centred and the softer yet equally moving love ballad Fingers Turn Blue. 2010 will see Rumour On Florence reinvent themselves as one of Australia’s best new young bands, focussing strongly on defining their craft a spreading their wings to the wider reaches of Australia, trialling their new material some of which will feature on another released surfacing late this year. As momentum gains and their musicianship matures this ever evolving band have a very bright future ahead. With a lot of change planned for this year, the wheels are in motion and the boys couldn’t be more ready to take the next step. Keep your ears to the ground for Rumour On Florence.
