Perhaps the preeminent Tucson band of the 80s, River Roses was a pioneering jangle-pop group that featured the complex pop songwriting craftsmanship of Caitlin Von Schmidt and Chris Holiman. River Roses released several successful independent recordings before signing with Camper Van Beethoven's Pitch-A-Tent imprint, released by Rough Trade. Frequent tours with Camper Van Beethoven helped cement the band's reputation as one of the most promising alternative bands of the late 80s, but internal dissent soon splintered the group, leading to Von Schmidt's departure.

A second disc, "When We Fall" was released in 1990 on Rich Hopkins’ San Jacinto label before the band finally called it quits. River Roses' original lineup included Chris Holiman, Caitlin Von Schmidt, Peter Catalanotte, and Gene Ruley, all of whom went on to play music in numerous other groups. Read more on Last.fm.
