Rhythm Chiefs - The youngest bluesband in Holland Since their first appearance on Queens Day in Dordrecht in 2003, the band often called the “Youngest Blues Band’ in Holland, has played at festivals, bars, parties and other venues in Holland and abroad with great acclaim. It is going from not well known small band to worldwide bluesrock alive-keepers. Performing originally Texas Blues numbers in the tradition of Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Thunderbirds, at present influences of Steve Vai and Jeff Beck are blending in and this creates an original blues sound. The band is made up of three young musicians: Dusty Ciggaar (15), vocals and lead guitar, Danny van’t Hoff (16), bass guitar and Rafael Schwiddessen (17)on drums. Dusty Ciggaar has just won the first prize at the Sena Guitar Awards for best overall young guitar player in the Netherlands (Dec 2005). Though only 14 he is seen as a 'legend in the making'. Dusty began at a young age playing drums – taking lessons from Timothy van der Holst, and still today continues to play drums for his father’s band: ‘the Tone Twisters’. About 3 years ago, he began to play guitar, first of all taking lessons from his uncle – Jerry Brown, and since last year he was accepted into the pre programme of of the Rotterdam Conservatorium, where he studies with Eric Ball. Dusty’s favourite band is the Paladins, and his favourite guitarists Stevie-Ray and Jimmy Vaughn. He plays a vintage Fender Strotocaster and a handmade Valvetech amplifier. Danny was eight years old, when he was chosen out of 400 pupils to receive a double bass scholarship. On arrival in Holland, the double bass was changed for a bass guitar and he started lessons with first Marco Oonincx, and later Ton van der Kolk and Marcel la Haye. Danny is 15 years old and has bass lessons at Rotterdam Conservatorium, where his teacher is Jeroen Vierdag. With the Rhythm Chiefs, Danny has played at music festivals and gigs at, among others, The Big Rivers Blues Festival, Oosterhout Blues, Kids Rhythm'n'Blues Antwerp, the Harley festival in Luxembourg, Zoetermeer Blues (see full gig listing on the gigs tab). He ussually uses Fender Precission Bass or custom fretless 6 string bass. Rafael began as a violinist (his father is a professional violinist and his mother a concert pianist), but found he preferred drums at an early age.

He took lessons from the same teacher as Dusty: Timothy van der Holst. His favourite drummers are Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters. His drum kit is a 6 part Pearl with Zildjian cymbals. He is 16 years old and in the 5th year of Gymnasium. Sometimes he is replaced by Dusty's brother, Daryll more info @ http://www.rhythmchiefs.nl Read more on Last.fm.
