Rebecca Worthley

Sparkly, beguiling acoustic pop. Its Rebeccas voice that will hit you first. Rebecca Worthley has been writing songs since she picked up her mums old classical guitar at the age of 16. Surrounded by music in her upbringing, with her pianist father and operatic mother, her many harmony-wielding siblings gave the family a distinct Family Von-Trapp feel. Rebecca was driven to share her music almost as soon as it came into existence and performed at her school, at friend’s weddings and in living rooms across the country.

Over the years, as she has moved into professional music, she has developed a unique and innovative sound where strongly acoustic songs blend inventively with jazz, folk and rock genres. With a strong and soulful voice she searches the deep and the political, exploring such issues as consumerism, violence and modes of truth. Her songwriting is brave and seeking revolution through music that is at once both haunting and calming. She released her debut full length album, Myths & Elegies, in summer 2005 to critical acclaim, one reviewer calling it, one of the most poignant and wistfully beautiful albums I have heard for years. Myths & Elegies blends the haunting delicacy of Rebeccas voice with an originality of multi-textured soundscapes woven round the acoustic guitars, cellos, and undulating drums of her band.

The centrepoint of the album are Rebeccas lyrics. These arent merely poetic, they are poetry with every phrase and image conjuring memories and moods in the listener. Myths & Elegies created quite a stir within the industry and continues to do so. Rebecca is now working with Producer Mark Hill on a promotional EP. She lives in Exeter, UK by the river.
