Rastawookie

The title track and the first single to be lifted from the album, ‘Perfectly Ordinary’ features midway, a hybrid of bossa nova, funk & reggae. Pat Torres supplying the resonant bass lines throughout keeps the sublime sounds rolling. Leading into the dark D&B track ‘Rise’, the band prove their ability in live drum & bass, which is far from the smooth sounds of earlier tracks. This diversity continues with an infectious ‘Swing’ track included in the mix, while ‘Aztec Valley’, introduces a revamped old school ska sound. Read more on Last.fm

‘Escandalo’, highlights the latin flavour of the album, a light hearted but very traditional cumbia. Finishing with a beautiful one drop roots tune, resonating with stunning vocals by Rob DeMasi, Rastawookie’s multi talented drummer, ‘Perfectly Ordinary’ is complete. Since their inception in 2002, Rastawookie have evolved from a band that began jammin’ reggae under the stars by a fire in a local hang out, to a big band who appeals to a broad spectrum of people. There are many different personalities in the Rastawookie crew and this flows through their music, friends and fans. Rastawookie hold strong beliefs in equality, and tolerance.

All band members are migrants to Australia hence multicultural acceptance is high on their agenda and a very important issue in the world as it spins today. Their South American roots are presented artistically and creatively throughout the album, ‘Perfectly Ordinary’. With five voices, four horns, two guitars, decks, bass, drums, keys, melodica and percussion throughout, ‘Perfectly Ordinary’ is cutting edge underground music. Rastawookie create a totally new and fresh sound, from a philosophy of music being based on life and the natural world. Their lyrics are about the simplicity of life, family, friendship, nature, laughter, dance and having no prejudice of where people are from or their lifestyle. In a world gone mad with greed and destruction, it is fantastic to experience the rapture of music throughout this record.

It is all about constructively moving forward – people learning in life and taking positive steps to make this world a happier place to live in. Not being ignorant to the world around us and enjoying the simplicity of music – The joy it brings – Such an ordinary art form, since the beginning of time – It is perfect. Rastawookie’s music and performance exuberates excitement and energy with un-predictable changes in mood, tempo & rhythm. They are not scared to break any rules or the barrier between performer and crowd. This along with their down to earth attitude is why they have and will continue to capture audiences from all walks of life.
