"Ranetki Girls, the massive all-girl Russian super band, are set to melt away the British post Christmas blues with their hot guitar riffs and energetic pop rock, as they perform at London’s 3rd Annual ‘Russian Winter Festival’ on the 13th Jan ’07 at Trafalgar Square." Having taken over airwaves and television sets in the Russian Federation, this collective of 16 year old multi-instrumentalists, are fast becoming Russia’s largest export! Hailed as the future of Russian pop music by foremost radio DJ’s, TV and press, the bands unusual set up and distinctive high energy performances have had people stopping to pay serious attention. London’s own ITN have filmed and interviewed the girls rehearsing and will be broadcasting in January. The dream team, Ranetki took part in the National Youth Music talent contest ‘Five Stars’, which was aired on Channel ONE [major TV channel]. The girls won after having competed with over 250 of Russia’s greatest young stars.

They have played to roaring crowds of upto 10,000 music lovers at ‘Megahaus’ music festival in Moscow and also stole the show at ‘Emmaus Fest’ earlier this year. Their debut single ‘Ona Odna’ [She Is Lonely] plus ‘Mi Ranetki’ [We’re Ranetki] are the most played and requested tracks on both MTV Russia and MUZ TV, Russia’s largest music channels. Plus, ‘Oda Odna’ is featured in the hit series ‘Kadetstvo’ about life at a youth military school aired on STS TV, Russia’s national terrestrial Television Station. Currently, the band is recording in English for their new release in 2007.

But that’s not all; the band has flipped the script with their extraordinary set up. The lead singer and budding motorcyclist and Harley enthusiast Lera, is also the band’s drummer! Lera’s vocals soar over the music while she goes to work on the boom-bap of the drums. Natasha plays lead guitar and delivers some addictive melodies while Anya, the bands punk rocker, provides the torrent of heavy riffage. Genya, who is a national snowboarding champion, turns up the heat with the keys and finally, Lena who brings to life the resonant bass, just happens to be a youth national football champion! As well as being proficient in their own instruments, the girls swap around half way through their set to incredible crowd reactions.

The name Ranetki comes from delicious wild apples that are native to Russia. The tiny berry like apples, stay on the trees the entire season but by some magic of nature turn sweet as honey after the first frost strikes quite like their rising career. Read more on Last.fm.
