Proving his dedication to creating effective recording through detailed production techniques, the score was not only written in the style of the 1950's Blue Note Records' sound, but was also recorded exclusively with vintage microphones and recording gear from the era thus recreating the sound of the recordings in full. His extensive knowledge of musical genres has enabled him to not only compose a remarkable variety of work but to combine several different styles, creating something altogether new. His diverse film scores have included atonal writing for chamber orchestra ("Jaloux"), middle eastern string ensembles ("Operation Casablanca"), jazz big band ("Regular Or Super" & "Karsh Is History"), post-rock guitar soundscapes ("Vanishing Currents"), Latin and Brazilian percussion groups ("Tout Le Monde En Parle"), minimalist keyboard works ("Familia"), funky blaxploitation parodies ("Camping Sauvage"), surreal folk music ("Puffball"), electronic music ("Web Dreams"), 60's surf ("Bob Gratton"), oriental instruments ("Comme Par Magie") and Bollywood themes ("Bombay Calling" & Cadbury's "Cara Sutra" TV ad). In the fall of 2010, Ram received both a Gemini Award nomination for the original score of "Karsh Is History" and a Prix Gémeaux nomination for his work on the television series "Comme Par Magie". Some of his other distinctions include a Juno Award nomination (Best Alternative album - The East Infection), a Felix Award (Best Urban Music Album - The East Infection, amongst three nominations), A Jutras Award ("Un Crabe Dans La Tete"), two Mimi Awards (Best Live Show and Best Album Production - El Pipo Del Taxi). His album production credits include not only his work as Ramasutra and film soundtracks but also Quebec's electro-pop duo Call Me Poupée, Indian fusion artist Catherine Potter's Duniya Project, Brazilian funk band Gaia, Bulgarian gypsy artist Lubo Alexandrov (Juno winner for Best World Music Album) and collaborations on the Voivod album Katorze. While Ram continues his work as a film composer, his two record labels remain dedicated to releasing new music from domestic and international artists (including Valleys, Pas Chic Chic, Red Mass, Bionic, Starvin Hungry, Devil Eyes, and Call Me Poupée to name a few) as well as reissues of lost underground gems.
