Rakel is the youngest of 4 siblings, and the only female. At a young age she took her first guitar and singing lessons, although she always focused on singing and this led to her joining the school choir. At 7 she played piano for the first time and continued doing it without any formal musical education, always hiding from her father as he didn’t want her to become a musician by any means. At 18 she started studying classical piano and saxophone, while at the same time studying Visual Arts at the ‘National University’ and the Bellas Artes institute in Medellin.

Continuing with her desire to increase her knowledge in different branches of the arts, Rakel decided to study Fashion Design at the Colombian Design College and while studying there, she launched her own clothing line, Stylöide, which is currently one of the best recognized fashion brands in her home town. As a Fashion Designer she received numerous awards at different runway shows and trade fairs. She likes to read, cook and learn about new cultures. She has been studying Kabbalah for 4 years. In 2008 she met Iker Gastaminza, a well-known producer, 5 times Latin Grammy award winner, who heard Rakel sing and suggests recording an album that will expose her essence and her distinctive way of expressing herself through music.

Rakel took a year to prepare her departure from her company Styloïde, and during that time she moved to New York and started writing her first songs. At the end of 2009 she decided to venture into this project which later became her first musical production “Milagros Orgánicos” (Organic Miracles) and in 2010 she traveled to Miami to start recording the album and to continue writing. For her first album, Rakel was inspired to write her own songs in collaboration with important composers from the Latin music industry, including Cristian Zalles, (who worked with different artists like Ednita Nazario, Ricardo Arjona, Chayanne, Olga Tañón, Ricardo Montaner), Juan Gabriel Turbay (Andrés Cepeda, Melina León), Javier García (Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan), Sebastián Yepes, a former member of the colombian band San Alejo, who pursued a solo career 3 years ago, composed the song ‘Entre Nosotros’ singing it as a duet with Rakel; the renown composer Jorge Luis Piloto author of songs like “Yo no sé mañana” “Que Le Den Candela” “Falsas Esperanzas” among other songs and a cover of the well known song by Alaska y Dinarama ‘Ni Tú Ni Nadie’. Her first single “Lo Que Respiras” was well accepted by colombian radio and college radio throughout the U.S. The well known director Simon Brand (Enrique Iglesias, Chayanne, Ricky Martin, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes) was in charge of directing the video for this song, which was launched during March 2011. ‘Lo Que Respiras’ went into rotation on the different international music video channels.

The same reaction was received with her second single “En El Tiempo”. The video for this song was directed by Kenneth O’Brien Llontop and it’s still on rotation on the different international video outlets. In April, 2011 she participated in “Musikmesse”, the largest and most important musical instrument trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, performing on the stage for Gibson Guitars and at the stand for DR Strings. Rakel was officially introduced to the Latin American music industry performing at the “Billboard BASH” as part of the Billboard Latin Music Conference 2011, in Miami. During the last months of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, she worked on promoting her music throughout the United States and was interviewed by different international media outlets In November 12, 2011, she performed at the National Beauty Pageant, held in Cartagena on a televised broadcast that was seen by millions of viewers in 28 countries. Rakel participated in Teletón Colombia, held in Bogotá and broadcast on RCN and Caracol Television, with performances from other artists including Juanes, Vicente García, Santiago Cruz, Jorge Celedón and Shaila Durcal, among others. Rakel ended 2011 with important recognitions of her music in Colombia.

Radio Tiempo, Medellin, nominated Rakel in 2 categories: 'Best Local Artist or Band’ and 'Best New Artist', awarded on this occasion for ‘Best New Artist'. Radio CAN also nominated Rakel for her song ‘Lo Que Respiras’ in the category of Best Song of 2011. She was also nominated for Colombia’s Premios Shock 2012 in the category of Best New Female Pop Vocalist for her song ‘En El Tiempo’. Rakel promoted her third single and video “Tal Vez”, directed by Kenneth O’Brien Llontop, throughout Latin America. Countries like Mexico, Ecuador, Perú, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Uruguay were included in a massive promotional tour that started during the second half of 2012 and continued throughout the first trimester of 2013.

During this tour, besides promoting her single, she performed at different events with her band. Her promotional singles ‘En El Tiempo’ & ‘Tal Vez’ received great support from radio stations in Latin America and the United States; As of the second week of January 2013 her song ‘Tal Vez’ was well positioned on the radio charts in different countries: in Peru ‘Tal Vez’ occupied the position #18 on the radio charts, in Venezuela was #10 and in Uruguay #17. Also, 'Milagros Orgánicos' was one of the top 10 albums sold during the summer in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Her first album, ‘Milagros Orgánicos’ was released digitally on June 12, 2012, and the physical CD is available in several Latin American countries, the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada 2012 was definitely a year of great recognition to her career, Rakel was nomintaed to the Latin Grammys in 2012 for her video 'En El Tiempo' directed by Kenneth OBrien' Llontop Rakel also worked with great success in Latin America the single and a video of the famous song released in the 80’s by the spanish band Alaska & Dinarama ‘Ni Tú Ni Nadie’.
