Pyramids on Mars; while keeping the other primal elements of the rock genre has discarded the electric guitar as central melody instrument. In its place has been amassed a great number of newly developed and very exotic, amplified stringed instruments. Some are so unsual that patent research has been ongoing. Included among these instruments are solid body electric versions of the veena, sitar, sarode and oud; instruments of eastern orgin. Percussion as well has dispensed with the snare and cymbals of a standard drum kit to concentrate all its primal energy onto large versions of upright toms and bass drums. Fusing the hardest elements of rock with a variety of eastern and tribal influences, many names are possible for this new sub-genre; east indian hardcore, worldcore, ethnocore or tribalcore. POM was conceived in January 98 by Martin Kvisvic (Marz).

The bulk of 1998 was spent building and developing the new instruments which would be necessary for this new sound. These include solid body electric sitar stick (long sitar), two cello sticks, electric dulcimer, oud and bouzookie. By the Summer of 1998 project material was being written. By the end of 98 the material was recorded for the first two Pyramids releases. In 1999 Marz was without the original musicians who were on the first two releases and most of the year was spent looking for suitable players to make a working unit for live performance. The new musical unit was finally established after countless auditions and initial changes in lineup by early 2000 which is to be the core of the ever-evolving POM. Current lineup: MARTIN (MARZ) KVISVIC: vocals, long (electric) sitar, electric spike fiddle, veena fiddle, electric cello sticks, recorder, electric bouzookie, electric oud. TAMARA LIPKIN: electric dulcimer, recorder. JOHN GARCIA: bass, recorder. SANDOR FINTOR: upright bass drum, electric harp. ROBERT JOSEPH: upright bass drum, telegraph pole.
