Formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987, Prisonshake has delivered gritty, bluesy, and ballsy rock for 20 years. Lead by Robert Griffin (also head of Scat Records and previously of The Dark and Spike In Vain) and Doug Enkler (formerly of the Offbeats), the band has released two albums (plus one full-length collection of demos) and numerous EP's and singles for labels such as Scat, Sympathy for the Record Industry, and Matador. While perhaps best known for 1993's The Roaring Third LP, Prisonshake's greatest accomplishment to date may still be 1991's I'm Really F*cked Now, a daring multi-format debut album featuring 38 tracks spread across a CD, vinyl LP, cassette, and 7" single, all of which were packaged together in a set limited to 1,000 copies. While this willingness to experiment with packaging serves as one of the group's trademarks (their "Deanna" single -- the first release on Scat Records -- came packaged in limited editions boasting sleeves covered with poker chips and playing cards), the records themselves remain a fitting testament to the band's lasting relevance in the rock world. Since Griffin and Enkler's relocation to St. Louis in 1995, Prisonshake's recorded and live output has slowed considerably; however, the group's first full-length record in more than 10 years (tentatively entitled Dirty Moons) is scheduled for release in late 2007/early 2008.
