Phoney is the pseudonym of Jaime Korbee. The Dutch electronica producer was born in 1986 in the city of Leiden and raised in a small town near to it, Oegstgeest. There he lived with his sister, brother and parents who had a horseback riding-school. Phoney is the pseudonym of Jaime Korbee. The Dutch electronica producer was born in 1986 in the city of Leiden and raised in a small town near to it, Oegstgeest. There he lived with his sister, brother and parents who had a horseback riding-school. However, Phoney wasn’t really interested in Horses and preferred playing football at a young age, and making music when he was a little bit older.

After graduating from his high school education in Leiden, Phoney moved to Haarlem to study Media & Entertainment Management in 2005. Phoney’s first attempt to produce music was during his high school period. There he met some guys who told him about several music production programs, like Fruity Loops. With this software he experimented in producing tracks in many different genres, from hiphop to trance.

Phoney started releasing tracks on the internet (MP3.com, Myspace) under the name JME and later on Tri Angle. Some of these songs can still be found here: www.myspace.com/alittlemoreconversation. In 2006 Phoney decided that he had to try and focus on producing tracks in the same style and introduced a new name (which is still the same). Funky breaks, jazz and pop are genres which you can recognize in his music of today. In the same year he sent his first Phoney demo to www.ontzettendleiden.nl, an event and compilation album for musical talents in the region of Leiden.

In 2007 he did the same thing with a new demo, of which the song ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ was picked as one the of the tracks on the ‘Ontzettend Leiden’ compilation album. www.myspace.com/phoneymusic Read more on Last.fm.
