On Peanuts & Corn releases, he has been known to do everything from rhyming and writing, to photography and artwork, to writing ads, all while producing the lion's share of Peanuts & Corn's library of well over 30 releases. Founding Peanuts & Corn in Brandon, Manitoba in 1994 (though it is now based in Vancouver) as a part of the Farm Fresh collective, he has developed into one of the most prolific and respected hip hop producers in Canadian history, and elevated his label to the same plateau. John Smith manages to meld small town creativity (being from Churchill, Manitoba) and the inner city reality of hip-hop.
