Oliver Oat is a singer-songwriter with electronic, folk and vaudeville elements, hailing from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Oliver was born 24 years ago on the 13th floor of a suburban building. The first years of his life his parents moved to the east and later the west of the Netherlands. Singing every night by the piano with his mother and sister and singing in church every sunday, he developed an interest for music early in his life. The piano, the most important object of the house, soon became his weapon of choice.

When he turned six, his parents decided he should take lessons at the local school of music. He wrote his first symphony at seven. Beside his piano lessons he took swedish folk violin lessons at the age of fifteen and played in numerous groups. Since 2002, Oliver started writing songs for solo projects. 'The Alchemist' being his first alter-ego, soon changing in 'Marinus' and finally 'Oliver Oat'.

After six years of writing, recording and deleting songs, New Romantics EP is the first production finally to make it. The roots of Olivers music seem to lie very deep in music his parents used to play during his childhood, like Tom Waits, Neil Young, Philip Glass and Eric Satie as well as more contemporary artists. Oliver is currently recording his third EP in Rotterdam. His second EP, On the Isle of Eye, is expected to be released this summer. More info on the website www.oliveroat.com. Read more on Last.fm.
