Olav Håkonson Hauge (18 August 1908 – 23 May 1994), best known as Olav H. Hauge, is considered one of the foremost norwegian poets of the modernist tradition in the 20th century. His poetry was adored by critics and other authors, but also by a huge number of Norwegian, and gradually by international, readers. Hauge was born in Ulvik, Hardanger, where he lived his whole life time. He was educated a gardener, and worked in his own orchard.

In 1946 he debuted with his collection Glør i oska, which included poems mostly in traditional forms, including the sonnet. Later in his career there is a change of direction to a more modernist form and language. Dropar i austavind from 1966 is considered one of the high points in his authorship. Hauge married the weaver Bodil Cappelen at the age of 70. The poems of Hauge inspired generations of poets, among them Jan Erik Vold.

Hauge recieved Kritikerprisen in 1961 for På ørnetuva, Doblougprisen in 1969 and Aschehougprisen in 1978. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
