Ocean Mirror

Ocean Mirror was born back in April 2006 by Ian Goode and Farhad Said, Ian playing keyboards, Farhad playing the cow and the triangle. Many names were bandied about, including Springtime for Hitler. They eventually settled on it's first incarnation, Psykadelik Funktapus. However not much in the way of music came from the duo, and late July heralded the arrival of drummer Thomas Whelan, guitarists Ross Driver and Colum Fitzmaurice (Unreal Numina), as well as the departure of Farhad. With new vigor, Psykadelik Funktapus began rehearsing.

Plans were made for a double disc concept album, however it never came to light. They started writing a bit of original material, as well as learning a few cover songs. A few demo tracks were written and roughly recorded in this time too. In early December, the band was invited to play a small gig with another local band Inochi at Inochi's drummer's 19th birthday party.

With a goal to work towards, Psykadelik Funktapus started writing more material for the gig and for an album. Ross had to leave the band during this time due to lack of commitment. Realising that the name Psykadelik Funktapus created wrong impressions about the band's sound, the name was changed to the much more suiting Zenithal. The band's first demo album "Phase -" was finished in time for the gig, and practices went well.

The gig came and went, and was a mild success as well as great fun. 22 copies of the album were given out too. Zenithal continued on writing music afterward, and began working on their second album, named "Meridian". It was written within 5 jam sessions over four months.

Little stood in their way except one major problem, in April '07, another band by the name of Zenithal from the UK was getting signed, so it was agreed that the band had to undergo yet another name change. After kicking around various ideas, it was decided that the new name of the band would be Ocean Mirror. The band had to date recorded all drum, guitar & keyboard tracks for Meridian, and had also begun actively seeking a vocalist and a bassist. In summer '07, Shane O'Brien of Duairc now defunct black metal band Nihil joined the band on bass. Towards the end of 2007, the search for a vocalist was going nowhere.

Guitarist Colum and drummer Thomas had decided to take it upon themselves to begin working on vocals. Due to this lack of vocal work, the Meridian album was effectively abandoned and the band chose what it felt were the best songs from both Phase - and Meridian and are currently working on those tracks as well as many new songs. On 15th January 2008, founding member Ian Goode left the band due to personal reasons. He was replaced by Ailbhe Cullen on 3rd March 2008. The band has recently decided to change their direction a more instrumental "post-death" approach, abandoning vocals altogether.
