The two of them, without the constraint of formal lessons, were truly able to develop their own unique style of writing and creativity. The two would stake claim to their parent’s garage and start disrupting the neighborhood from its confines. Now, Alex didn't live in Bakersfield or even California for that matter. No, the grunge influenced hippy was aimlessly drifting the nation, living in his 1985 VW Cabriolet.
It wasn't until the summer of 2003, at the request of an old flame that Alex headed out west to Bakersfield, unknowingly igniting the series of chain events that would eventually bring him to the garage. Aaron's passion for music lies with hard rock/metal bands like Slipknot, KoRn, and Mudvayne, while Alex favors the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana. So, when Alex was approached by a local 80's "hair-rocker" who wanted to desperately bring back glam rock and hair metal, one would assume Alex's musical roots would scream "NO!" but suffering from an extreme case of Bakersfield boredom, he agreed. Shortly thereafter Aaron, who was simply buying a pack of strings, was approached by that same leather pant wearing blonde perm having diva, proving beyond a doubt, that fate will have its way. Three months after meeting for the first time, the two would part ways with the 80’s fanatic, finally bringing Aaron, Alex, and Adam together as one.
It was the spring of 2004. Nyceria, was born. It wasn’t until the summer of 2009 that Nyceria would record their first eleven song album, Eternal, at A.S.R. Studios in Bakersfield. Upon completion, Nyceria would concentrate on making that raw sound as available as possible, playing such venues as The Roxy Theatre, Whiskey-A-Go-Go, and The Knitting Factory Hollywood.
They would travel from California to Idaho, sharing the stage with artists such as, Brian "Head" Welch of KoRn, Ratt, Hed P.E., and L.A. Guns. In the fall of 2010 Grammy Nominated producer Luigie Gonzalez, (Gwen Stefani, The Killers, Ricky Martin) intrigued with Nyceria's sound, offered to help "fine-tune" and record a five song EP. The EP was completed in February of 2011. Between the months of February and April of 2011, Nyceria's EP reached the creative mind of Hollywood cinematographer Ricardo Moreno (Juan Gabriel, Marco Antonio Solis). Inspired by the sound of Nyceria's single "Scathe," Ricardo offered his services in the form of video production.
Nyceria would work with Ricardo over the course of the next five months, releasing their first video, "Scathe" in August of 2011. Blake Tedder and Rohan Cowden would join the group in early 2013. The two long-time friends have performed together for the better part of seven years. Sharing many of the same influences such as NIN and Radiohead, the two have brought a different “flavor” to Nyceria’s sound. Keyboardist Rohan Cowden brings limitless possibilities to the music while Blake Tedder’s attention to detail has filled Nyceria’s music unlike ever before. Nyceria is no ordinary band, a "musical anomaly" as described by Luigie Gonzalez and his colleagues.
By combining heavy nu-metal styled riffs with techno/grunge leads, darkness has become melodic and emotional. Nyceria has brought the power to feel again, to excite. No, Nyceria isn't ordinary. Nyceria has taken the time needed, investing in themselves as performers and artists, creating a professional sound, EP, and video to share with fans and the music industry today. They are confident that someone will recognize their talent and what they have to offer and that this someone will invest in them, to help get their music to the world.
Nyceria has recently cleared over 100,000 music downloads overseas, with most of that interest coming from the Federation of Russia. Is Nyceria the next legend out of Bakersfield? You be the judge!
