During the mid-90s, the band (said to "out-chemical the Chemical Brothers"!) released 5 singles and 2 albums - 'Ripsnorter' and 'Freeky Speed' on the Hydrogen Jukebox label. “Slab was largely electronic and sample based and after three years of touring, writing and recording I decided that I needed an outlet for my songs so I picked up the acoustic guitar again and started writing.” Nina met Alex Patterson from The Orb through living in the same block of flats in Battersea. Together they co-wrote two tracks - 'Ghost Dancing' and 'Plum Island' - both of which appear on The Orb's highly acclaimed album 'Cydonia' (Universal/Island). She has also recorded demos with producer Youth and collaborated with Andrew Weatheralls Two Lone Swordsmen outfit on their recent album “From the Double Gone Chapel” on Warp Records. Nina also Worked with Lol Hammond again co-writing tracks on his recent album 'All This is Bliss' released through The Big Chill. Nina's film work includes a BFI commissioned piece for the Kenneth Anger film 'Rabbit's Moon'. The piece was also included in a live performance at the Royal Festival Hall. Aside from managing a pro-audio suite in London, Nina runs her own specialist experimental underground label, C-PIJ Records as an outlet for what she calls her "electronic rantings". The label's first 'Wah/Fuzz/Swell' album was preceded by four 7” singles. She also recently performed an electro acoustic gig under the name 'Obscura' at the Spitz in London with San Francisco based all girl punk band Erase Errata.
Reaction was so strong that she decided to release a limited edition CD of the gig through C-pij Records. This year, apart from the Two Lone Swordsman collaboration, Nina has been writing and Recording with Language Records band Biomuse. They have finished six tracks to date and are planning a 7” & DVD release this summer. Check news for further developments. Right now Nina is finishing production on her own album. A collection of songs she has written over the last few years. Still having a keen interest in electronics, she has engineered & produced most of the songs herself.
However, at times she has called in the assistance of the very talented Mat Rowlands from Pod whose records Nina used to release on Sabrettes. She has ask ex.Headcleaner's drummer Erick Legrand to co produce some of her tracks. Nina has also worked with other great musicians on the album including acclaimed classical cellist Audrey Riley and singer Gareth Thomas. Nina's songs are simple, beautiful and honest. She sings in a way that is reminiscent of Marianne Faithful but has her feet placed firmly in the 21st century. Read more on Last.fm.
