Each of the four members love different styles of music, so at first it seemed a bit difficult to find the common ground, but then they realized that they don’t need such a thing, the most important for them is the music, and that was more than enough. Their style is so called indie-rock, but that’s a label which they got from others, not their own choice. They just like to play, especially loud. Newgatti’s first concert was in December 2007 at the Gödör Club, which was so successful, that since then they play concerts almost every month in different clubs, and venues in Budapest. The first gig was an unforgettable experience, which really gave them a kick.
They became regular guests in the Fészek Club, and Artkatakomba, but they also played in the Trafó Club, Dürer Kert, and the Club Erőd in Mezőtúr. The band participates in the “Budapest Underground Talent Festival”, and their drummer had won in the “Best Drummer” category. The band also won a trophy. A chance to open for one of the jury members in the future.
The following year was very determinative for them, because they completed a 6 track EP, which debuted both on Facebook and Myspace. (These 6 tracks was the imprint of the band last period.) Later this year the “Hungarian NME”, the WAN2 magazine made an interview with the band. They wrote about Newgatti in the so called „Associates of The Hungarian Version” section. The article was published in the 2009/05 issue.
In 2010 they took part in the Facebook talent show “One Day Fame” which was also organized by WAN2 magazine, they made a video interview with them. The year 2011, the turning point of the band’s life. In the first half of the year they played a lot of club concerts, but when they got a feedback from their fans about requesting their CD, they thought that it would be a fantastic idea to release the first Newgatti album. So they choose the best songs, audience favorites, and then recorded the tracks. The result is a “bunch of songs” from the recent years, the end of an era.
It’s called Hope Avenue (Reménysugárút). Attention, it may contain traces of pop! The band decided to spend most of the following year 2012 with promoting the album. First concert was held at Dürer Kert, which was a great celebration of the debut album with their fans. After that they play both electric and acoustic concerts throughout the whole year.
In the middle of the year there was a sudden change in the band’s lineup. Old drummer out, new drummer in. The new member’s name is Péter László, but everybody calls him Pepe. He gave fresh energy to the band and they keep promoting the new album.
They end the year with a succesfull pre new year’s eve concert at Fészek Klub. It was probably their most joyful concert yet. In the year 2013 the band had the chance to move into their own practice place. This lead to the opportunity to work on brand new songs. Their new drummer had given a bit of a more straight rock sound to the band.
During the following concerts they tested out the new songs. They came up with a plan to make these new songs into an EP. So they started to record them as early as possible, to finish them before the next year. During the process they decided to shoot their first ever offical music video as well.
Plenty of work had to be done, but they did it again. The result is the new EP called „Csak A Miénk (It’s Only Ours)”. It contains 8 tracks, 5 new songs, and 3 different edits and remixes. They released the new EP on the very first day of the year 2014. A great start for them, and for everybody, who likes their music.
The music video for the title track „Csak A Miénk” is also ready. The premier day is the 31st of january 2014. Here we are now. So far, so good.
