Repetitiveness is generally banned from Newer Not’s work, except in some specific compositions in which it forms the very basis of a slowly evolving pattern. There are no lyrics in Newer Not’s current compositions, although all songs are closely linked with literary activities. songs such as ‘Matches make a city, miniature.’ or ‘Tsunami dripples’ take their inspiration and title from Lemberthe's novels. They can therefore be considered as soundtracks for literature. Other influences can be as diverse as math-rock, live-electronica, post-hardcore, post-rock (bands such as Pivot, The Knife, Battles, The Blood Brothers, Cult of Luna, Shora, Red Sparowes, Erik Satie to name just a few). Although none of these can be clearly spotted in Newer Not’s music, they all contribute a great deal in its elaboration. Régis Lemberthe now lives, works and composes in Berlin.
