Who would have thought that repeated exposure to the music of the Beatles' Abbey Road; Peter, Paul, and Mary; as well as the musicals Gypsy, Hair, Godspell, and Oliver; could instill a lifelong passion for music in a child? Actually, it all probably makes sense in some twisted kind of way. And regardless of the reason, this unique combination of early childhood memories has culminated in Dan Nosheny's unique approach to music. Dan Nosheny is a multi-instrumentalist performer, singer, teacher, and songwriter. He received his Bachelor in Music (yes, it's called a BM) from the Eastman School of Music in 2000, focusing on tuba performance and music education. Since then, he has toured Japan with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and performed around the United States with many different ensembles.

The Violent Femmes, Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra, the Bryn Athyn Symphony Orchestra, and Maggi, Pierce and E.J. are just a few of the groups Dan has performed with. In addition, he has worked with such artists as Laurie Anderson, Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie, Christian McBride, McCoy Tyner, and, a particular highlight of his career, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. He is equally comfortable performing in high octane venues with a rock band as he is playing his own music in a quiet coffee house or the local dive bar. As a student of music education, Dan was required to learn all of the instruments in the orchestra.

While many of those have been forgotten (I'm looking at you, bassoon), he frequently performs on tuba, accordion, trombone, and a collection of toy pianos. Dan takes these instruments and pieces of classical, popular, and world music to create an eclectic style of his own, eschewing any particular genre and allowing musicality and expression to be the goals in themselves. The result is a heartfelt series of snapshots of just what it means to have listened to musical theater and the music of the 60's, while running around one's living room in one's underwear at a young age. Hypothetically speaking, that is. Read more on Last.fm.
