Stéphane Paut (born April 16th, 1986), most known professionally as Neige (French: "Snow"), is a French singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, now relocated to Paris. He is the sole creator and leader of blackgaze act Alcest and the main author behind the now-defunct, pioneering act Amesoeurs. He often sings and plays guitar mainly, but he is also known to play bass and keyboards, as well being a proficient drummer. Neige quickly started to gain public recognition for his involvement as a drummer and live rhythm guitarist for black metal band Peste Noire (and their early incarnation Dor Daedeloth) at the beginning of 2000s. About this collaboration with them, he would later state on an interview in German that, "Playing in a far-right band was just an error done during his teens and that he is against racism and nazism." He also became involved with black metal band Mortifera in 2003 up to the Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera album, for which he wrote two songs.

In parallel, he really started to make a name for himself with his main bands Amesoeurs and Alcest. Alcest's first EP, Le Secret (2005), and debut album Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde (2010), mixing numerous shoegaze, rock and metal influences, skyrocketed Neige to fame, which led him to lay Amesoeurs to rest. Later he would also provide vocals for various acts, such as Ukrainian Old Silver Key and German Lantlôs, as well some live bass performances for countrymen and close friends, les Discrets.
