The atmosphere of the place affected the way the songs were approached and they decided to record this way and see if the ‘magic would make it into the grooves’. Little Johnny England’s Gareth Turner appeared on Under Diamond Skies and has now recorded some beautiful melodeon on these new tracks. Guy Fletcher (LJE), Miles Gilderdale (Acoustic Alchemy) and James McNair (as heard on BBC TV’s ‘Coast’) also lent their considerable talents as you will discover throughout this collection. Whilst textures and parts have been added and other songs included, the beating heart of this album remains the sound of five friends in an inspiring room forming a circle and making music. ABOUT NAVARO Navaro came together as an act when a small indie label boss heard them rehearsing and offered them an album deal. The resulting cd was generously praised in the roots press and numerous live dates followed including festivals and support slots with Fairport Convention, Colin Blunstone, Phil Beer (Show Of Hands), James Grant (Love and Money) and Little Johnny England. The defining characteristic of the Austin/White/Navaro combination is the harmony blend.
All three singers take on lead vocal duties and all three draw on different traditions for their influences and yet reviews have noted a coherent and clear identity to the resulting sound. The band are happy to acknowledge their admiration for the likes of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and the many artists who made up the golden age of folk singer/songwriters. The artist’s job was to serve the song and consequently we are left with the classic albums that Navaro and the rest of the world love so much.
