Mechanik was an electronic band that appeared around the Michigan area in the late 90s-early 2000s. The leader of this band's name was Ayei Ghil and he claimed to be from another world. Stranded on Earth, he began to use his musical talents to play shows and raise money to hopefully repair his spaceship and escape. Soon he was joined by a cast of similarly sci-fi themed characters, including the Synth Dragon, the Sin Dragon, silver-clad dancers and Ayei's arch enemy Kinahcem. Read more on Last.fm

Mechanik's music appeared on the independently released 1998 compilation, "What's In The Bottle?" A full-length album, "This Damn Planet" was released in 2002 on the Scratch n' Sniff label. Perhaps these albums and frequent shows did indeed raise enough funds to get Ayei back to his home planet or maybe he decided to settle and live a quiet life amongst Earthlings because he has not been seen or heard from in several years.
