“A Great Artist” – Gilles Peterson on Radio 1 'Sublime' – Healthy Concerts 'Nectar For The Soul' – Daily Info “An amazing and dynamic voice with the grace and emotion of Damien Rice and Jeff Buckley” – Nightshift Magazine “Lush and always inventive” – The Times “Fearlessly Sunny, Gorgeously Orchestrated” - Trifectagram, NYC In the short few months since Matt Sage finished producing his second LP, Let The Music Out - awash with gorgeous, sweeping, pastoral melodies and timeless songs - he has already moved on, putting together a soulful, rocking four piece band, The Medicine. All four players in this blistering quartet bring a heavy pedigree to proceedings: Sage, already something of an Oxford legend for his various musical and production activities over the years, has been described by Gilles Peterson as ‘a great artist’, has played at WOMAD, and had his songs played on Radio 1, 2 and 3. Jerry Soffe is Oxford’s most highly regarded bassist, playing with everyone from Easy Tiger to Portishead sideman John Baggott. Carpenter is a keyboard player, songwriter, guitarist and singer, and Bassuk spent 10 years as a session drummer in New York City, before taking up permanent residency with The Medicine. Classic songs, soulful, rocking, uplifting music. As his former band mates began their ascent to stardom with Faithless and Dido, Matt moved onto a boat on the Oxford Canal and founded the now legendary Catweazle Club, Oxford's performance space for 'music, poetry, song and all manner of acoustic artistry'.

Through The Catweazle Club, Matt met many of Oxford's finest players, the best of whom he drafted into the nascent Orchestra of Love to help record his wide-screen debut, Strange News From Another Star. This led to some slavish reviews, airplay and support from Gilles Peterson, an invitation from 1 Giant Leap to perform in New York, and at festivals throughout the UK. Matt Sage has spent a fruitful last 18 months, collaborating with 1 Giant Leap alongside the likes of Michael Stipe and kd lang, song writer Paul Herman (Dido, Corinne Bailey Rae), composer Tom Ingleby (Neneh Cherry) and Pooka’s Sharon Lewis, as well as regular shows both solo and with members of the Orchestra of Love, selling out two shows locally at The Pegasus Theatre and The Abbbey Sutton Courtenay, and being invited to perform at WOMAD Gran Canaria. The Medicine's debut album is due for release early next year. Matt Sage & The Orchestra of Love's album Strange News From Another Star is available for purchase at good music stores in the UK, through Proper Music, online at www.mattsage.com and www.cdbaby.com as well as for download through www.itunes.com. www.myspace.com/themedicine www.myspace.com/mattsagemusic Read more on Last.fm.
